\"wompic\"<\/a>A 22 year-old-woman walked away dejected after a maternity test proved that a baby she claimed to have birthed was not hers.<\/p>\n

The DNA profiling done by Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) concluded that Ms Irene Kirimi was not the mother of the 30 day-old baby boy.<\/p>\n

Ms Kirimi told a children’s court that she had lost her baby on Friday this week at a city hospital where she had gone to deliver.<\/p>\n

After the test, senior principal magistrate at the Milimani Law Courts, Mr Gitonga, declared the boy a son of the state and ordered that he be kept at Kenyatta National Hospital for care until a children’s officer establishes a home where he can be brought up.<\/p>\n

Ms Kirimi had been admitted in Space Health Care Hospital in Kawangware, Nairobi, on August 25.<\/p>\n

She said she was taken to the labour ward to give birth to her first born son, but that was not so.<\/p>\n

She said she never saw \u201cwhat she went to labour for but was told different stories by the hospital staff”.<\/p>\n

She further told the\u00a0Nation\u00a0at Milimani Law Courts that she was told she had a stillbirth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was also told my child rot in my womb and at birth they threw him away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She went on: “After two days I went back to the hospital to demand for more details about my child then later made my plight known to Mike Mbuvi, Nairobi senator, who enlisted legal services for me to pursue [a case against] the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her lawyer, Wanjiku Mwangi, then filed a case against the hospital.<\/p>\n

ADOPTION<\/p>\n

The senior principal magistrate advised the couple (Irene Kirimi and Peter Mahungu) to file a suit against the hospital for the body to be released to them.<\/p>\n

She is the one who requested for a DNA test and Mr Gitonga directed Kemri to file a report on September 23.<\/p>\n

She expressed devastation regarding the unfavourable results saying “how can I loose my child both at the hospital and in the courts. I am sure the child I saw is my by baby boy. I will pursue this matter until I get back my child. I can’t lose the first fruit of my womb.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Kirimi said she might adopt the child.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thinking of pursuing an adoption for the child.\u201d<\/p>\n
