On 13 August, the milestone was celebrated with a colorful event organized by \u00a0the Federal Government in Mogadishu. \u00a0\u201cThe absence of cases of polio in Somalia today is testament to the leadership, commitment and hard work of the Government and people of Somalia,\u201d said Dr Mahmoud Fikri, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean. \u00a0The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi \u00a0Farmajo, thanked the partners\u2019 support: \u201cthis achievement would have not been possible without the support of UNICEF and WHO\u201d.
