Lower shabele campaign Breast Feeding

MMD (8) week it was the world’s largest breastfeeding week, and mothers around the world were being breastfed for good breastfeeding.

Becoming the parent of a new baby is both a life-altering gift and an immense responsibility. This week, as countries around the world celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, UNICEF and WHO are calling on governments and all employers to adopt family-friendly policies that support breastfeeding.

The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is “Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding.”

Family-friendly policies – such as paid parental leave – enable breastfeeding and help parents nurture and bond with their children in early life, when it matters most. The evidence is clear that during early childhood, the optimal nutrition provided by breastfeeding, along with nurturing care and stimulation, can strengthen children’s brain development with impacts that endure over a lifetime.

Our organizations Maternal Mercy & Development (MMD) was able to carry out a small project in Lower Shabelle region, especially in Wanle district, to educate mothers on the importance of breastfeeding, while there was a free health screening and treatment program.

This program was held in Haakow, 7km from Wanle Weyn, benefiting 478 families for free medication, screening and breastfeeding awareness.

It was an important work, and HAAKOW community families were thanked MMD for this opportunities.

This is not the first time MMD has conducted medical and awareness campaigns in the Lower Shabelle region.
