HIV/AIDS- Awareness in Rural areas Procedure.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to set up a clear strategy to extend HIV/AIDS awareness programs to communities in remote areas who do not have accessibility to media and other awareness programs.

- The Organization believes that extension of HIV/AIDS awareness activities to remote communities will reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country.
- PROCEDURE STEPS
- HIV/AIDS awareness raising in community
- MMD ensures all plans and procedures on HIV/AIDS outreach activities are implemented.
- The organization integrates HIV/AIDS components into development projects.
- MMD shall participate in HIV/AIDS coordination and planning meetings with other organizations to avoid duplication of outreach activities.
- MMD shall maintain close working relationship with communities and local authorities.
- MMD shall ensure that adequate resources are earmarked for each activity.
- HIV/AIDS training for CDCs, TBAs and CHWs
- The organization provides HIV/AIDS trainings for the under-mentioned community groups:
- Community Development committees (CDC).
- Community health workers (CHWS) and traditional birth attendants (TBAs) with basic HIV/AIDS trainings.
- The organization provides CDCs with exposure visits to HIV/AIDS awareness projects in urban areas.
- The organization will organizes CDCs visits to hospitals.
- They will be provided with HIV/AIDS TOT to train other community members.
- Health staff will be given training on HIV/AIDS and STIs data collection.
- Integration HIV/AIDS awareness activities into the organization development programs.
- The program Officer shall prepare all due outreach reports.
- MMD shall render awareness training to its beneficiaries from time to time.
- MMD organizes meetings on quarterly basis with the community leaders to keep close relationship in tackling HIVAIDS.
- MMD organizes integrated flow up trainings for the community groups to ensure change of attitude adopted.
- MMD conducts constant HIV/AIDS assessment surveys in different villages where the training activities did not take place.
- MMD carried out surveys on risk factors leading to HIV/AIDS infection and formulates strategies to avoid those risks.
- The organization bears in mind community cultural sensitivity while conducting HIV/AIDS awareness.
- MMD shall make sure that the training and HIV/AIDS visible materials like billboard with visual aids are compatible with community values and beliefs.
- Community leaders like sheiks and Elders should be involved in HIV/AIDS outreach activities.
- MMD shall utilize community talents and skills such as poems, dramas, songs and stories.
- The organization integrates HIV/AIDS components into development projects.
